Meet Darryl Dote
I was born and raised in Southern California, in a little town called Cerritos, just on the north border of Orange County and Los Angeles County. From the age of six, I had developed a passion for music, the arts, and technology. Beginning with piano lessons at Yamaha Music School in La Mirada, I quickly began improvisational work, embellishing on the simple melodies that the class taught; adding harmonies and counterpoint even during my first two years of piano/keyboarding.
From that point on, I began a process that would lead me through several years of private piano lessons, personal mentoring relationships with several recording artists, directing several high school choirs, performing in front of audiences of over 14,000, and an incredible year at the Orange County High School of the Arts. It was there that I not only got personal instruction and insight from several top pianists and instrumentalists, but I also honed my sight-reading skills, accompaniment skills, and vocal skills through their prestigeous Musical Theatre program where I had the priviledge of studying alongside (and even accompanying) such to-be stars as Chad Doreck, Scott Barnhardt, and Matthew Morrison.
During that time, I also began developing an interest in page layout and design, especially with the birth of the Internet. Beginning with PageMaker 2.0 (back when it came on two floppy disks!), I taught myself the art of page layout, typography, and graphic design – designing programs for different school performances and programs, as well as my first website.
Several years have passed, and there have been several great opportunities to grow and learn as a musician and designer. Through all of that, I began taking up photography and choral arranging, as well.
